At the Advocacy meeting today, we discussed the excellent, secure voting system in Oklahoma. It was asked if we accepted the HAVA funds of 2018. I learned the following at the June LWVUS convention in Chicago:
Monies were sent to states to be spent by 2023 to update equipment, poll observing, security of vote, language translation, on-line registration, accessibility, more poll workers, and problems at voter sites. Oklahoma is already spending some of its money. For more info, see www.eac.gov. Problems at polls should be investigated immediately and get the voter’s name. Also, get and report all of the good things for voter confidence.
At the above site, you will find Oklahoma’s total award, their 5% share, and the final payment. You will find the State Narrative and a breakdown of the use of funds. Click on right side – 2018 HAVA Funds, scroll down to Oklahoma and open Narrative. Our total grant is $5,455,818.
